The Katie B Organization is dedicated to empowering youth in foster care by providing life skills training, mentorship, and educational support that promote independence, self-sufficiency, and long-term stability. We strive to ensure that every young person has the tools and confidence needed to build a successful future beyond foster care.

SCALE OF THE ISSUE

Annually, around 18,500 to 20,000 young people age out of U.S. foster care without permanent housing. Within the first year after aging out, approximately 50% become homeless. Within four years of leaving foster care, about 20–25% of these former foster youth experience homelessness. Between ages 17 and 21, roughly 11–36% of youth who age out of foster care report experiencing homelessness.
